About Us

Mid-Michigan Equine Services was established in 2006 by Laura Pylman, DVM (formerly Chamberlain). Dr. Amy Keyt joined the practice in the summer of 2010.

Laura Pylman, DVM

Dr. Pylman completed her undergraduate degree at Michigan State University with a bachelors in Animal Science –Equine Emphasis.  She then attended MSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine where she completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.  While there she took a strong focus in Equine Lameness and Reproduction.  After graduation Dr. Laura worked for Prairie Equine Veterinary Clinic (one of the greater Chicagoland’s premier Equine Sports Medicine practices) in Barrington Hills, IL.  During that time she also worked at Animal Medical Center of Crystal Lake, her mother’s full service small animal clinic in Crystal Lake, IL.  This unique combination of experiences allowed her to develop a broad range of surgical, diagnostic, and treatment skills that benefit all her patients -large and small.

Dr. Laura’s horse interests cover a broad range of breeds and disciplines.  As a youth she began riding Arabians in english and western pleasure events.  Later she became involved in high school and college rodeo and began barrel racing and roping on Quarter Horses and Paints.  Veterinary school placed a large time constraint on showing, so Dr. Laura began studying dressage and riding warmbloods in what little free time she had.  After graduation, Dr. Laura purchased a racing Quarter Horse, Abrcadozen, that she ran on the track for 2 years.  During that time she also began taking jumping lessons on her Trakehner mare, Mrs. Hyde, and competed in local hunter/jumper shows as well as a few USEA recognized events.  Currently Dr. Laura has been showing her young Arab/Dutch Warmblood cross, GA Aphrodite (Affie), in halter, Sport Horse In Hand, and dressage classes, while continuing with her dressage and jumping lessons on Abra (now retired from the track), and learning the finer nuances of dressage from Mystique, her new Hannoverian schoolmaster.  Anishnaabe (Levi)  is a racing Arabian foal she co-owns that should be hitting the track in 2011, so her horse life truly has come full circle!

Amy Keyt, DVM

Dr.  Amy Keyt completed her Animal Science Bachelor’s degree from MSU in 2003. She then attended Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and completed a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2010. During her degree study she focused on general equine medicine taking part in externships at private practices in Michigan (West Michigan Veterinary Services and Oakdale Large Animal Clinic). She also focused on food animal medicine and surgery with externships at Green Meadow Farms in Elsie, MI and Overton Veterinary Services in Lexington, Nebraska. She has had a wide range of experiences working with dairy and beef veterinarians as well as organizing and participating in MSU CVM’s Bovine palpation team while studying for her degree. She has recently been hired by Mid-Michigan Equine Services to provide medical services to horses, cattle, sheep, goats and camelids which are among the species that she is interested in.

Dr. Amy grew up riding horses taking both English and Western lessons and trail riding her Quarter horse mare. She worked at Shea Stables, an Arabian training center, after high school where she obtained great experience and training knowledge working with these beautiful horses. During her undergraduate study she worked for a trainer in Mason, MI and began showing in the English and Western disciplines with a variety of breeds (Quarters, Morgans, Saddlebreds) at the local shows. Now she owns a 5yr old Dunn Quarter horse gelding that is trained for team roping that she trail rides and her fiancé ropes on. With a little practice she may be starting to rope this summer along with him. With her fiancé, Brad, they own a herd of registered Angus cows that they produce calves for seedstock and freezer beef at the Rockin’ Double H Ranch. Now in her free time, when she’s not riding or ranching, she enjoys landscaping and wedding planning!
